Throwback Prep Thursdays: Ralph Lauren and the West

1978

For throwback preppy Thursday segment, it's Ralph Lauren. To a lot of people when you mention the name Ralph Lauren the usual associations are three piece suits, Madras shirts, polo shirts in every pastel possible, and seersucker pants. While yes, these are very true traits to associate with the brand. Ralph Lauren to me  really America because it's a mixture of various backgrounds. While the associations I mentioned are very East Coast influenced. Ralph Lauren also has a western influence, which consist of ponchos, denim jackets and pants, cowboy boots, wool sweaters with native prints probably influenced by Pendleton, down vest with the western yoke (Rocky Mountain Feather Vest Colorado Brand). Western wear is actually the opposite of the old school era preppy fashion. The outfits are highly accessorize, which is completely the opposite of the preppy dress code which less is more. Western wear outfits have bandanas, Navajo inspired belts, Turquoise jewelry. Today's Neoprep fashion really put a cross out to that rule with men and women having arm parties on their wrists. Ralph Lauren is Prep, but it's larger than Prep it's America you could find every U.S.A region somewhere! Most of the pictures are shot by Bruce Weber with the very popular Ralph Lauren model Clotilde. Enjoy!
