Penn Avenue Eyewear Allen AKA P3 Glasses

Penn Avenue Eyewear Allen AKA P3 Glasses Preppy

While I absolutely love my current glasses it would be cool to have an extra pair of glasses so I can rotate. I had the thought of getting a second pair of glasses for a while now. With a new year I felt like it would be appropriate for a little change. I have always been a fan of tortoiseP3 style glasses. Back in the day P3 glasses were actually made from tortoise. I took my consideration of maybe updating my eyewear look and decided to go to Penn Avenue Eyewear. These glasses aren't made from a tortoise, but from acetate. I receive my #hometrykit today I tried on the other glasses which are great, but my eyes are focused on these bad boys. Then, I pulled out my version of the#hometrykit and pulled out my Ralph Lauren penny loafers and my Harris Tweed Blazer. This is the true surrounding for this classic piece of eyewear. If you're curious to know my choice of pants also probably tartan plaid or corduroy. The semi-round glasses are made modern with a high sitting keyhole bridge. These acetate frames feature silver metal accent pieces on both the front and earpieces. While this style of glasses is known to be expensive, Penn Avenue Eyewear Allen doesn't hurt your pocket. Available in three colors: Black, Blueberry Tortoise, and Butterscrotch Tortoise at the price of $99 which includes prescriptions lenses check the site!

Philadelphia Girls Rowing Club Untold story

Philadelphia Girls Rowing Club Preppy Rowing Blazer Womenswear
1938
I feel proud of myself to be the first in the Ivystyle/preppy blogosphere to introduce this story. The Philadelphia Girls Rowing Club was founded on May 4th, 1938 and is the oldest active women's club of its kind in the United States. The club was established because no other rowing club allowed women to join. The clubhouse, located at 14 Kelly Drive on historic Boathouse Row in Philadelphia, was built in 1861 as the home to the Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society. The Humane Society of Philadelphia was organized in 1770 and its responsibility was saving the citizens from drowning while skating. The Philadelphia Skating Club was the first club of its kind in America. Its members skated on frozen rivers and lakes in the Philadelphia area. The club's goals were to instruct the art of skating while also rescuing people who fell through the ice. When the Humane Society ceased to function, its organization and responsibilities were acquired by the Skaters Club of the City and County of Philadelphia. Many of the ice skaters that were in the humane society of Philadelphia made their own club, which was the Skater Club of the City and County of Philadelphia

The founding members 1947
(Back row L-R)  Stella Sokolowska Peters, Ruth Robinhold, Harriet Mongan, Ernestine Bayer
(Front row L-R)  Lucy Finnegan, Betty McDevitt, Edna Graff, Doris Warner

The club was founded by Ruth Adams Robinhold, who placed an ad in a local newspaper seeking women to form a rowing club. Almost 100 women showed up at the first meeting; after a $5 monthly fee was charged, 17 stayed to form the club. The founding members were Ruth Adams Robinhold, Gladys Hauser Lux, Lovey Farrell, and Mrs. Ernestine Bayer, along with thirteen additional women that became the core founders.

Introducing HILLFLINT: The Mark One Sweater

Hi everyone! One fact about me if you know me personally or follow me on instagram is that I'm a notorious sweater lover. I love wearing sweaters from cardigans, crickets sweater to them ugly Christmas sweaters that everyone hates wearing. It's actually  hard to find a great looking sweaters in stores like Gap, or JcPenney, Banana Republic or H&M. Most clothing retailers don't offer quality sweaters. For me a quality sweater is defined by being made from natural fibers. I'm not a fan of synthetic fibers unless it's a fleece. Most sweaters nowadays are a blended have less wool and are more synthetic. The majority of my sweaters are from natural fibers.

A new brand is set to fix this problem. Hillflint startled by Woody Hines who help create one of my favorite preppy  website Prepidemic and Men of Habit. Hillflint was startled by Woody Hines (Princeton 12) and his friend John Shi (Darthmouth 12) A couple day ago Woody release his Kickstarter campaign to market and sell his first non-college branded product: a plain, varsity-inspired, and genuinely luxurious crewneck sweater. Everything seems going accordingly as they raise over 10,000 over in 12 hours. Also they accomplished their goal and are exceeding it with having raised 32,908 of the pledged goal that is 20,000.  You can check it out here:  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shi/hillflint-the-mark-one-sweater Please support!!!
Quality

Let me discuss  the actual sweaters. You're not going to find a better quality sweater than this one. The sweaters are made with nearly 1.5 pounds of super soft 100% extra-fine grade Australian Merino wool in seven gauge knit. Sweater is beyond soft that it feels like cashmere. Cut slimmer to avoid the frumpy muffin-effect of most sweaters and with a less elastic waistband to prevent the sweater from riding up the body with movement. The sweater focuses on many problems that wool sweaters face itchiness, bagginess, and hurts our pockets if we seek quality.  It only cost $85...amazing

Throw Back Preppy Thursdays: WoolRich Woolen Mills 1962 Ivystyle

WoolRich Woolen Mills
Today from the Crispyarchives enjoy this ad from a heritage brand that I truly love and greatly respect. This advertisement is dedicated to everyone that comes from the Ivy league area that attended any of the top 8 Ivy League schools. This is a 1962 ad from Woolrich in which features three students from Harvard, Yale and Princeton.  I completely agree wool is better it lasts longer and feels better. Wool is the reason why I look forward for fall. Wool has that feeling that polyester can't achieve. Wow check out the prices for the clothes wish clothes were still that price. Students should dress like also remember first impression said a lot enjoy. Oh yeah I'm wearing a WoolRich sweater. These  young scholars are on the right foot by wearing the essentials a true gentleman should have in his closet a toggle duffle coat, Blizzard coat with a shearling on the collar and a Popover. I'm taking notes, you should as well!

Throw Back Prep Thursdays J.Press 1959 Sweaters

Prep throwback Thursday is brought to you by J.Press. This might be one of my favorite advertisements I have posted so far. The advertisements come from the 1959 catalog, featuring quintessential Ivy League items normal in any preppy household in 1959. The 1959 catalog had classic sweaters like, "The Shaggy Dog, Shetland Sweaters, and the Danish Irish fisherman" for men and women. I wonder why J.Press no longer sells their timeless sweaters to the female audience, which I'm sure would be a hit. I wished I had a time machine to relive this time and be able to buy these sweaters at those prices.

New Bass Weejuns Larson Colorways

Hi preps! The other day I was checking out G.H. Bass & Co and I came across to these gorgeous Weejuns. The Weejun is a quintessential shoe that I highly urge any prepster to have in their closet. The Weejun is usually seen in the popular burgundy color way. Being the owner of two pairs of Bass loafers one being black and the other one being burgundy, I literally had a panic attack when I saw the new color ways of green and blue. Any prep wear enthusiast for a fact knows that they can never be satisfied with owning one color of the weejun. It's not even December and I already added these bad boys to my Christmas list.Go buy them at https://bassshoes.harborghb.com/

J.Press X Ovadia & Sons Collaboration

Two menswear giants have gotten together to do a tremendous collaboration. J.Press and Ovadia & Sons have gotten together to do biggest collaboration of the year for menswear. J.Press is one of the oldest brands specializing in the Ivy League Look; J.Press has been around since 1902. They're the premier Ivy League clothing brand. I was checking the J.Press website a while ago and came across to this quote, "Classic American Style isn't created in an instant. It takes time. In fact, it takes a generation worth of thoughtful refinement and an unwavering commitment to dress men to Ivy League Standard. That's been our commitment since 1902". The brand started in Yale University, which explains that close relationship with the university. The brand has been around for 110 years, which is quite an achievement.
Ovadia & Sons is a fairly recent brand that has been appearing in the menswear blogosphere. It's hard to believe that Ovadia & Sons only been around since 2010. They seem like they have been around for at least ten years. But the truth is the brother's actually have been doing this for a while. The brother started working in their family business, which was children apparel from an early age. They don't have formal design experience  besides working in their family business which I'm completely astounded. I like this collaboration. While both brands target is menswear, they both have different age groups. J.Press is praised in the Ivy League Community. In fact, they're the epitome of the Ivy League look along with Brooks Brother's. J.Press is more popular, with the old school generation that is traditional. J.Press encapsulates American Ivy League wear. Times have change and the Ivy League look in fact has had resurgence in the past two years. There's has been a cessation of baggy pants in men in the past years. Men are starting to want to dress like real gentleman again.
The line consists of quintessential Ivy League wear. Ovadia & Sons gave the line a more appealing look by making the line overall fitted. You can say it is a rejuvenated look to Ivy League style for the 21st century man. Others brands have tried to captivate the Ivy League style look, but fail. For example, Rugby was one of those brands with an exorbitant amount of logos and patches. I liked their slippers and accessories. But their varsity jackets and rugby polos were an eyesore.
The collaboration is a mixture of J.Press traditional classic style with Ovadia & Sons exquisite tailoring resulting in a more fitted look for today's modern gentleman. Ovadia & Sons influence is quite obvious for example, floral print shirts, pants with drawstrings and cargo pants. However, I find the last picture out of placed, doubt I would find gym attire in an original J.Press catalog. What I do like is that the Ivy League look essentials were never taken out. All the essentials that would bring the regular J.Press customer and new together would be the Madras patchwork blazer, bow ties, ocbd, obviously the color pink ,trench coats and embossed stripe scarves. Not to mention the very casual looks mixed with the Tretorns Nylities.
In conclusion, extraordinary line that left me impressed with most looks. Ovadia & Sons gave J.Press a more updated look by adding a few trends in and there to attract the younger crowd that may not have heard of J.Press. There are two looks that I didn't like. I'm very curious on the price on the clothes. This collaboration will benefit both brands for example; maybe it might bring Ovadia & Sons the traditional older crowd that doesn't read fashion magazines and menswear blogs. What's your opinion on this collaboration? Is it a good or bad?

Throw Back Prep Thursdays Chipp Clothier

I decided to bring it way back with this Throw Back Prep Thursday segment with a ad by  well-known Ivy League clothier Chipp. A very brief summary about Chipp. Chipp was founded by Lou Prager and Sidney Winston in 1947. Sidney Winston worked for J.Press before he founded Chipp. The Ivy League clothier dressed President John F.Kennedy. The clothier sets itself apart from its fellow Ivy League look clothiers by offering clothes in more color. Chipp also introduced embroidered corduroys, and patch madras. I will write a more thorough article on Chipp soon. Stay Crispy!!!

Ralph Lauren Closes Rugby Label

Yesterday, I was checking out a fellow preppy blogger Instagram, when I came across to some devastating news. Ralph Lauren will be closing its Rugby label both stores and its e-commerce site, I was caught off-guard with this tragic news that I had to research it myself to actually believe it. The label has been around for eight years and was well received by young consumers. Ralph Lauren launched the label in 2004. Fourteen stores in the U.S. including the stores in Japan and London will be affected. I really like Rugby label because it was more fun and youthful. Also, I liked the 15% off discounts they offer to students. According to Ralph Lauren, executives explain the reason behind to this band was to "focus resource on higher growth, more scalable global opportunities with the core Ralph Lauren brand." Ralph Lauren will be pulling the cord on the label on February 2, 2013.What's your opinion on Ralph Lauren closing the label?
