Throwback Prep Thursdays: Ralph Lauren and the West

1978
1978
For throwback preppy Thursday segment, it's Ralph Lauren. To a lot of people when you mention the name Ralph Lauren the usual associations are three piece suits, Madras shirts, polo shirts in every pastel possible, and seersucker pants. While yes, these are very true traits to associate with the brand. Ralph Lauren to me  really America because it's a mixture of various backgrounds. While the associations I mentioned are very East Coast influenced. Ralph Lauren also has a western influence, which consist of ponchos, denim jackets and pants, cowboy boots, wool sweaters with native prints probably influenced by Pendleton, down vest with the western yoke (Rocky Mountain Feather Vest Colorado Brand). Western wear is actually the opposite of the old school era preppy fashion. The outfits are highly accessorize, which is completely the opposite of the preppy dress code which less is more. Western wear outfits have bandanas, Navajo inspired belts, Turquoise jewelry. Today's Neoprep fashion really put a cross out to that rule with men and women having arm parties on their wrists. Ralph Lauren is Prep, but it's larger than Prep it's America you could find every U.S.A region somewhere! Most of the pictures are shot by Bruce Weber with the very popular Ralph Lauren model Clotilde. Enjoy!

L.L. Bean Town and Field Waxed Cotton Jacket

A couple of days ago I presented the  2014 L. L. Bean fall/winter look. One of my favorite pieces of the brand was the Town and Field jacket.  Which in my opinion is relatively affordable at $200. This jacket is a great alternative for the girls that want a Barbour which can be expensive or want that another option than the J. Crew boyfriend jacket.  While the town and field jacket is fifty dollars more than the J. Crew boyfriend jacket. You're paying for better quality;  British Millerain waxed cotton is one of the best waxed cotton fabrics. British Millerain® Co. Ltd. (Established in 1880 and family owned for six generations). I was really happy to see this jacket bought back from the archives. This specially updated style is lined with quilted flannel and features details that draw on tradition to keep you warm and dry, even in the harshest conditions: brass zipper with button-closure and patch pockets that conceal handwarmers behind, corduroy trim. Let me tell you, being an owner of waxed canvas  and riding jackets corduroys trim always feels great around the hands and neck on cool chilly days. This jacket is perfect for those days when there's inclement weather wear them with a cap and pair of L.L.Bean to fully accomplish the trend preppy androgynous look in a woman. The jacket shouldn't only be worn during inclement weather, on sunny days throw some riding boots and channel your equestrian look! Best thing about this jacket is that it's stylish and functional! Remember fall is L.L. Bean so start shopping! Click here

Throwback Thursdays: Woolrich Woolen Mills 1974 Ramar Cloth Parka

Woolrich Woolen Mills 1974 Ramar Cloth Parka
From the Crispyfiles enjoy this advertisement from one of my favorite heritages brands Woolrich Woolen Mills. This advertisement dates back 1974 featuring the Ramar Cloth Parka. Using the popular 60/40 formula in the parka, giving it a water-repellent shell. Ramar fabric was very popular because it is able to endure a lot of outdoor abuse.  This down jacket is perfect for going to the trails in 1974 and now.  The jacket has great features like 2-way zippers, down insulated pockets, waist drawcord which prevents from wind traveling in the body. The jacket compacts into its own pocket or can be used as a pillow.

Victorinox Swiss Army I.N.O.X Watch

Last month I was invited to the release of the Victorinox Swiss Army I.N.O.X watch. I had a great time at the event, I bumped into a few old friends, which is always great. Honestly, before I went to the event, I read information about the watch and I was pretty impressed. The watch does things that very few watches can. I was impressed, but not to the point of me desiring a watch.

Chief Of Department of the FDNY

If you aren't familiar with Victorinox, the brand invented the Swiss Army Knife, which is a pocket knife with various tools like a bottle opener, scissors, tweezers, toothpick, corkscrew and nail file. All these tools come in handy in some awkward situation in your life whether you need to open a champagne bottle at a party or to cut a box. The Swiss Army Knife made a cultural impact, the name is usually mentioned when talking about reliability, longevity and being able to adapt in any situation. The knife was invented in 1891 because the Swiss Army needed a knife for their soldiers that can be used to open canned food and also disassembled a Swiss service rifle Schmidt-Rubin M1889 for cleaning. It became very popular after world war II as a lifesaver in numerous occasions.

It takes a lot of courage to name a watch after the legendary pocket knife. There's a reputation at risk. It's 130 years since the Swiss army knife has release and to celebrate Victorinox is releasing a watch to commemorate. To mark the occasion, Victorinox Swiss Army has I.N.O.X., a new watch that pays tribute to the history and industrial know-how of the brand by showcasing the values that have made it famous: authenticity, strength, quality, expertise and Swiss design.

L.L. Bean Fall/Winter 2014 Preview

Hi everyone, in June I had the privilege to get a glimpse of L.L. Bean fall/ winter collection. You would think I would have posted the pictures already, but no. I posted some pictures up on my instagram account and receive incredible response. However, most of the clothing wasn't available online. Another reason was I'm sure you readers would want to buy some of the clothes immediately so posting this collection at the beginning of summer would have been an absolute tease. Tantalizing would be the word. Well, it's time to put back the Madras, Seersucker, and Jack Rogers in Storage. I love the warm weather, but miss the cold weather because I can't wear my Norwegian sweaters and my 12 inch duck boots.

Let's begin talking about the collection with the shoe that made the business, the Bean Boot. This season the bean boot will be available in an assortment of colors like white, blue and red. Materials like Bison leather and wool from Woolrich will also be incorporated.
