The old school pic of the week isn't preppy. But exploring
the great outdoors is preppy. Holubar
Rock Mountaineering another great yet forgotten brand from Colorado. The Brand
was established in 1946 and lasted until North Face bought them in the 80s. The
brand was very innovative one of the first to use nylon in down jacket. Stay tuned I will feature a more in-depth article
about the brand.

My Pick : Abington Hiker
A couple of months ago, I came across to these boots. I usually bring up Abington when I get in conversations for alternatives for Red Wings boots. These hikers are totally crispy and badass, like seriously you don't know what I'm talking about until you tried them. The boot has D-rings which make them easier to lace up. Well built boots featuring two holy grails that will leave hardcore boots enthusiasts drooling. Horween leather upper and a Vibram rubber outsole will make this boot to last for years to come.Get them here

Throw Back Prep Thursdays: BOAST USA
Today's oldsshool
prep picture is the infamous Boast tennis shirt. This brand was established in
1973 Greenwich, Connecticut by Bill St. John was a tennis professional.
Many people thought that the logo was a marijuana leaf which was the
reason it was banned in some schools. The logo was actually a Japanese
Maple leaf. The famous polo shirt with the maple leaf, which in my
opinion has the best looking logo among tennis shirts. In the few
incoming days I will post a complete history of the brand.
Capsule Trade Show Women: Sperry Top-Sider Spring/Summer 2013
Crocodile skin |
Woven Boat Shoes |
Badass |
A couple of months ago I attended the spring/summer 2013 Capsule show. I stopped by the Sperry Topsider stand. I decided to release the pictures now instead of September because, I felt it would more appropriate now. This post is for my female readers. We're in January which means we're a couple of months away from spring and summer.
Sperry Topsider stands out from their competitors by offering the boat shoe sihouette in various patterns and prints. Other brands offer boat shoes in just an array of colors. Sperry Topsider does both setting themselves apart. For example, staying away from the traditional brown and beige color-ways, Sperry had pastels that would go perfect with any Lacoste, Vineyard Vines polo or a Lilly's Pulitzer dress. If you look closely at the first two pictures, you will notice the texture of the leather which resembles to crocodile skin. The addition of colored soles will encourage you to think of your wardrobe since they make a bold statement. Colored soles are a fairly recent trend which was first seen in heels and oxfords. In more simple terms colored soles just make the shoe appeal more lively, and sprightly. Patent leather boat shoes are always great for dressier occasions. For the girls that are tired of solid colors, Sperry Topsider also has you covered with intricate patterns like animal print (which was very popular in 2012 and still going strong). The woven boat shoes were neck-breaking; which is why they're my favorite because woven shoes reminded me of warm weather.
I can't just leave the party just for boat shoes. There's was canvas sneakers. I really like the Espadrilles ("I definitely didn't expect to see that") which are classic summer footwear. Penny Loafers as well were added, which are a great option for prepsters that need to attend more formal occasions. A great looking Penny Loafer because it has the sole of a Sperry Topsider boat shoe which means comfort.
To sum it up the line overall was crispy like the title of my blog. Very solid line because Sperry-Topsider knows there's plenty boat shoes brands out there, and by offering the boat shoe in various designs like woven, animal print, and colored soles. They also added timeless silhouettes Espadrilles, Canvas sneakers and Penny Loafers which allows them to cater to a different crowd. Some of these models are now available while others are not. Well Stay Crispy Ladies!!!

Penfield Fall/Winter 2012 Camp Wandawega
You probably have seen the pictures already on blogs. But the weather has been very weird in New York City. I always look forward to seeing Penfield look book. They really knew how to capture the outdoors in their pictures. The look book is not trendy in my opinion, more I see it like a collection of good splendid times spent in the outdoors. That's why they continued to be one of my favorite outerwear brands. Plus the addition of the Jeep made the lookbook badass
Oak Street Boot Makers at The Pop up Flea
Brown Hunt Boot = Badass |
BeefRoll notice how the shoe appears wider |
Vibram Soles so the haters can't catch you slipping |
The brand that is the highlight from "The Popup Flea" was Oak Street Boot Makers.I
had a brief conversation with Mike Wikie at the stand. The conversation was
very informative felt more like I was in a science class. For readers that
aren’t familiar with Oak Street Boot Makers; Oak Street Boot and shoes are made
from Horween Chromexcel leather.Oak Street Boot Boot makers have made the word
Chromexcel a household name.Mike and I were talking about how a couple years
ago the word Chromexcel was a word only heard from leather enthusiasts.
Chromexcel is the holy grail in the leather world. This type of leather comes
from adult cowhide from a tannery in Chicago, Illinois. The process that
Chromexcel goes through is amazing, it undergoes 89 separate processes taking
28 days and utilizing all five floors of the Horween facility in Chicago. Food-grade
beef tallow, cosmetic-grade beeswax, marine oil, chrome salts, tree bark
extracts and naturally occurring pigments are combined.
It was hard to decide what my favorite was. The beef roll
penny loafer had me in amazement.I love seeing penny loafers with beefroll on
the side. Mike and I agree that the beef roll makes the penny loafer look more
balance by giving it a wider appearance on the sides. We also agree with the
popularity of the penny loafer with women, the beefroll gives it more masculine
appearance. My second favorite pic was the trail oxfords.I simply love the
design of shoe its perfect.Whats better than a moc that is Horween® Chromexcel®
leather with hand-stitched moccasin construction and to top it off with a camp
sole. The Brown Hunt Boot is totally badass and rad.I fell in love with this
boot great height, Chromexcel leather, rawhide laces and a Vibram sole.It
doesn’t get any better, great alternative to a red wing.
Finally, paying a visit to Oak Street Boot Makers was definitely
worthwhile. I had the opportunity to speak with a knowledgeable
representative that really likes what he was doing. I went by to ask
some questions and got a lecture (very rad). If you are looking for long
lasting high quality shoes, then here's my approval. Actually, if you
hear Made in the U.S.A., Horween, Vibram and handcrafted in the same
sentence ...just buy it.
