Throwback Prep Thursday: Polo Dungarees By Ralph Lauren 1988

   I will always say it in the blog. No other designer brings can bring out the American aesthetic like Ralph Lauren. In this advertisement from, The Polo Dungarees line which was launched in 1985. This advertisement dates back to 1988 and it's a wonderful mixture of the WASP and working class fashion. The gorgeous camel coat, white Oxford cotton button down and rep tie would be part of the Wasp or Trad American style while the denim jacket and pants would be part of the middle working class. Ralph Lauren is a huge denim aficionado, he has a huge love for western American fashion which has played an influence on his designs. He can be usually be seen at runway shows dressed pretty humble or casual in denim. Pretty ahead of its time, now creative directors are taking notes and putting a new take on heritage middle class brands like Carthartt or Dickies. What I love about this advertisement, is that it's pretty much relatable. The mixture of several types of clothing is quite common and obvious in the biggest runway, New York City. This is why he's a great designer, he designs runway clothes that people can actually wear through every aspect of their lives.

Please Help Save Long Island City Clock Tower!

    One developing story that I have been closely following is the Long Island City Clock Tower aka the Bank of Manhattan building. I have been concerned with the fate of the Long Island City skyline icon hoping for the better good. Besides the Citigroup building this is probably one of my favorite skyscrapers in Long Island City. But then again Queens doesn't have that much skyscrapers to begin with. During my commute to college, I would always find myself admiring this building. Plenty of transactions are occurring in the area that seriously worries me the fate of the building. Last week the $142 million acquisition of the Center Building was closed, and this building is block away.

        Property Markets Group, owns the adjacent lot across to the building. They submitted plans to build a tower on the adjacent lot at 29-37 41st Ave. The proposed building is a 70-story mixed-use high-rise with 930 apartments, retail space, gym and a parking garage. The proposed building is four times the size that current zoning allowed on the lot. This conundrum can be resolved by to combine two or more adjacent lots into one, and that adjacent lot is Clock tower and we don't want that. Last year, Property Market Group purchased the Clock Tower for more than $31 million. The building was pretty much vacant, but the remaining tenants received notices of lease terminations in November, effective May 31 which isn't away, informing them of the "landlord's intention to demolish all or part of the building." Quick facts about the skyscraper it was constructed in 1927 by designed by architect Morrell Smith during the big skyscraper fad. It's 772 feet height. Today, I  (Yes I'm a real estate agent but a friendly one)  had to show a wonderful client an apartment. On my way back home, I was trying to stay updated with the real estate news when I came across to some good news. This Tuesday the Landmarks Preservation Commission will decide whether or not to "calendar" the LIC Clock Tower to be considered for landmark status. If the building reaches landmark status the exterior can't be changed. This building should be a landmark, it's part of history, which is vanishing in Long Island City. Socialite of the Month: Eleanor Lambert

      Expanding the historical content of my blog to not only fashion, automobiles, and architecture. Every month I will drop a couple facts of a socialite of my choice. The first socialite to make the segment is Eleanor Lambert, which I couldn't think of a better person. If you're aren't familiar with Eleanor Lambert she opened plenty of paths for the American runway. Believe or not, America wasn't always a big giant. Sometimes I still don't think this country still gets this view. Why do I say that because there's plenty of wonderful brands made in America that deserved more fame. Also, there's plenty of people with their heads in under rocks still thinking the Made in U.S.A dream doesn't exist.

Johnston and Murphy Callihan Wingtip Oxford

     Sorry for the delayed my beloved viewers. I have been pretty busy with learning the real estate industry. In the past weeks I have been becoming more and more interested in wearing oxfords. If you follow me on instagram or know me personally you know that I'm not an Oxford kind of guy. I'm usually wearing penny loafers or horse bits. After a night of having a couple of drinks, I decided I need to get my act together and write a post. Before, that I was keeping up with my social media platforms instagram and twitter. Curiosity struck me and now I'm on the pursuit for the ideal Oxford for moi. First, is Johnston and Murphy. One of the Oxfords that caught my attention was the Callihan Wingtip Oxford. An archive design built using softer leather for a more casual, updated attitude. Hand burnishing gives each pair depth of color and individual character. For a decent quality oxford wingtip that should be able to last you a couple of seasons it's reasonably priced. It has a genuine Goodyear welted construction which can be refurbished and if taken good care would a long lasting shoe. The Oxford meets most of the requirements that I'm looking for in an Oxford from a being reasonably priced, Goodyear welted construction and a leather heel. I absolutely wouldn't wear a rubber sole Oxford.The wingtips are available in a Mahogany Calfskin and  go for $195.00.What do my menswear enthusiasts think?

Throw Back Prep Thursday: J. McLaughlin Cosmopolitan magazine 1987

   I'm a big fan of of J. McLaughlin if you didn't know. I should be writing more about the brand since the headquarters is located across from where I live. From the crispyarchives here's a J. McLaughlin advertisement  featured in Cosmopolitan magazine from 1987!True Prep at its finest washing a Mercedes Benz while wearing plaid. Loving the shoulder pads!!!

   Those days of wool overcoats and puffer jackets are starting to seem to be gone. Yup, I'm totally happy for this change. J. McLaughlin has a great outer piece for the warmer weather, the Chatham Quilted Jacket. Perfect for the individual that leaves the morning when it's chilly and returns home when the temperatures drop again. What I love about these jackets is that they make a lightweight layer. If the weather becomes  hot just take it off, and fold it plain and simple Instead of getting a quilted jacket in the usual colors like olive and navy. Why not get a bright color one like yellow and orange. It has three pockets on the outside and one interior pocket. The quilted jacket  retails for $345.00
